All In The Family
I was not being strategic. I didn’t know she had siblings or more cousins than a centipede has toes (does a centipede in fact have toes?). I was in love with her well before the family tree had been fully decorated.
Nor did I beforehand know the history of the family lake cabin. It was the construction of a stout German immigrant, the grand father in her case, who came over right before WWII. He also happened to be a naturist, having read a book about it back in his youth. I suppose the illustrations were convincing.
As he raised his new family, rather successfully I’ll add, the cabin was the focal point of summer, and he forbade the use of swimwear, explaining the salubrious nature of FKK principles. “Natural and wholesome” were his catch-words. No one seemed to mind.
Growing up that way (my wife has now explained) meant nudity was never something to blush about. In fact, it seemed ridiculous to wear a special bit of kit for water that would thereafter cling to you like the damp laundry it now was. A human body drip dries very efficiently without one.
As the family blossomed and cousins joined the mix, along with new in-laws, it was known that a visit to the cabin would likely involved nudity. I’m sure along the way there were a few who refused to join in the nakedness, but I never met any of them.
In my case I had expected a gentle introduction, an easing into the situation, but instead was greeted by my wife’s naked sisters lying face-down on the dock, whom my wife joined immediately in nakedness, leaving me the lone figure on said dock sporting J. Crew cargo panted shorts, extra long.
Of course I joined in and, as you might have suspected, felt the need for an immediate dip. The rest is history, as they say, except this history also include a generous amount of photo history, which I learned occupied a large volume on the cocktail table sitting inside the cabin. “Grandpa used to submit photos to those German naturist magazines,” my wife said. “He was very proud of them.” (Extract)
